November 2013 Shell LiveWIRE Grand Ideas Award Winners Announced!

Tue, 07 January 2014

These four inspiring young entrepreneurs each won a £1,000 Shell LiveWIRE Grand Ideas Award for their startup.
Ian LeBruce (Cappuccino Ads)
Cappuccino Ads print portable advertising on takeaway coffee cups and distribute them to independent coffee shops in the city centres of Edinburgh and Glasgow, with plans to expand to the rest of Scotland. The advertiser gets their brand in the hands of their targeted demographic, the coffee shops get free takeaway coffee cups (removing one of their biggest costs), and the business cuts down on waste as they use locally sourced cups which are completely compostable.
Jenny McIlhatton (For Evelyn)
For Evelyn provides bespoke and off-the-peg luxury fashion accessories, consisting of millinery and capes, which are aimed at the bridal and occasion wear market. The business offers a face-to-face consultation to make bespoke pieces in the client’s choice of colour and style to coordinate with an existing outfit or make the extra special finishing touch to their wedding outfit. Additionally, the business supplies capes to Saudi Arabia, filling a niche in the Middle Eastern fashion market for a 'fashion forward' cover up as an alternative to a traditional shawl.
Tom Walkinshaw (PocketQube Shop) (pictured)

PocketQubes are 5cm cube satellites and allow access to space for University researchers, students and amateur groups, for the lowest price. PocketQubes are smaller, cheaper, and less costly to launch into orbit than their competitors, allowing small teams that need access to space to train engineers of the future to test new technologies and develop new business models to create economic growth. The business offers a one-stop shop for components (including structures, deployers, electronics, solar panels etc), a modular project mentoring service and the latest launch opportunities.
