September 2018 Shell LiveWIRE Smarter Future Programme Shortlist Announced!

These four young entrepreneurs have been shortlisted for the Shell LiveWIRE Smarter Future Programme for the month of September!
The Smarter Future Programme provides £5,000 in start-up funding to one winner per month to help young entrepreneurs with the most innovative business ideas to tackle the biggest energy and resource challenges we face.
 
The four shortlisted businesses for the month of September are:
 
Hendrik Buechner (YumNow)
YumNow is an online food marketplace designed to reduce food waste by facilitating a new link between sellers and customers. In the UK, food waste from households, food service and manufacturers, and other food sectors totals around 10 million tonnes annually; YumNow want to change this. YumNow believes that by selling leftover meals they can reduce the food waste which restaurants, cafes and individuals produce. As well as offering a buy and sell platform, YumNow will deliver your meal to your address and is free to download onto your smart device. 
 
Harry Hall (OneCup) 
OneCup aims to reverse the habit of single-use disposable containers by replacing them with quality reusables at point of need, starting with coffee cups. They provide cafes with reusable coffee cups for free and advertise the cafes’ location on the linked app as well as providing branded sleeves. OneCup members can locate the cafes and borrow a cup by scanning the QR code displayed at the till, then return the cups to another OneCup café or a ‘smart collector’. OneCup encourages the UK coffee-buying public to reduce the waste associated with take-out coffee, without the hassle of carrying a reusable cup around all day.  
 
Matthew Rowe (MATR) 
MATR is a smart nano-technology air purifier for personal spaces that features a removable air quality tracker to improve your health. The purifier eliminates pollutants indoors whilst the tracker shows information on health-damaging air pollution hotspots outdoors. In contrast to traditional purifiers, MATR’s purifier destroys particulates instead of trapping them; this reduces related waste products, such as filters, from going to landfill. MATR’s air quality tracker crowdsources data in hyper-accurate real time allowing users to make more informed decisions about how and where they travel, ultimately improving health.  
 
Daniel Woloch (Certified by Voyage) 
Certified by Voyage’s main product, called Impact, is a mobile app where users can track product journeys and brand’s supply chains while they’re out shopping. After scanning a product, the user is given information on the sustainability of their potential purchase. The Impact platform has a fun element as well where users can compete with friends on how sustainable their purchases are. Voyage will work with partner brands to share data on consumers’ shopping habits to increase transparent communication between brands and their customers. Voyage’s ultimate aim  is to help the consumer make smart choices to lessen their environmental impact and demand higher standards from the products they love.
