Seven UK Businesses Shortlisted For Shell Global Innovation Prize

Seven entrepreneurs from the UK have been shortlisted for the Shell LiveWIRE Top Ten Innovators Awards.
Seven entrepreneurs from the UK have been shortlisted among 21 finalists for the Shell LiveWIRE Top Ten Innovators Awards, a global competition which highlights and rewards businesses that demonstrate excellence in innovation.
 
The Awards are open to alumni of Shell LiveWIRE, Shell’s flagship enterprise development programme. This year’s Awards are delivered in partnership with Shell Retail and will identify outstanding Shell LiveWIRE businesses which can enhance the sustainability of Shell Retail business and operations.
 
Winners will be named in the categories of Energy Solutions, Retail Supply Chain and Social Enterprises. Shell believes that, by supporting new ideas and entrepreneurs who are innovating in waste reduction, energy efficient solutions, cleaner energy and positive social impact, together we will progress towards meeting our goal of more and cleaner energy solutions, taking great strides along our journey to a low-carbon future.

Go to https://www.livewire.shell/topteninnovators to vote for your favourite business. Public voting is open from 25th June to 1st July. The public vote results will help determine the ten winners; the ranking of the Top Ten, determined by an expert panel of judges, will be announced in November, during Global Entrepreneurship Week 2018 (GEW2018).
 
The shortlisted businesses now have the opportunity to claim one of three top prizes of US$20,000 or one of six Runners-Up prizes of US$10,000. In addition, an Outstanding Achievement Award Winner will receive US$10,000. All ten winners receive an award package, including mentoring support by a Shell expert, the opportunity to benefit from market linkages, global exposure, possibility to be considered as a vendor to Shell (Retail) and can participate in an exciting two-day Top Ten Innovators event during GEW2018.
 
The 2017 Global Top Ten Innovators overall winner, Carlton Cummins, co-founder of UK business Aceleron, partnered with the Shell Foundation to offer its revolutionary waste battery energy storage technology and provide accessible, affordable, energy solutions to off-grid communities in East Africa.
 
The seven UK businesses are:
Energy Solutions Category
Metronome Energy has developed low-cost technology which balances demands on the national energy grid during peak times.
ChargedUp provides a public network of power bank rental stations to charge mobile phones with green energy.
 
Retails Supply Chain Category
Mimica Lab has developed a biologically accurate food packaging label which indicates when food spoils.
FRUU produces cosmetics using underutilised fruit waste and by-products.
Wonky Drinks makes sustainable fruit juices from misshapen fruits, relieving farmers of stock going to waste.

Social Enterprise Category
CustoMem produces cost-competitive water purification materials that remove pollutants in industrial wastewater.
Petit Pli retails baby clothing which adapts with their growth, reducing textile waste.
