Gregor Mackintosh, 2009 Shell LiveWIRE Young Enterpreneur of the Year (Scotland), has won his first Scotland-wide supermarket listing.
Gregor Mackintosh has expressed his delight at the order from Asda which will see the extra virgin rapeseed oil he cold presses from the oilseed rape grown on his family's farm in the North East of Scotland sold in all 50 of its Scottish stores from Monday.
The deal marks the first anniversary of Asda listing the Mackintosh of Glendaveny oil in 15 of its local stores. Gregor, 23, launched his business two years ago on the family farm in Aberdeenshire and made it through to the UK final of the Shell LiveWIRE Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2009. He spotted the market opportunity after completing a dissertation on the likely demand for rapeseed oil – low in saturated fats and high in healthy omega three, six and nine.

The business is now the biggest of its type in Scotland, supplying not just Asda, but a multitude of independent outlets and caterers too. The Asda order has resulted in a £50,000 investment in new storage tanks and an automatic bottling line. The extra facilities give Gregor the capability to press rapeseed day and night freeing him up to spend more time on other areas of the business.
Gregor now has plans to move his company into their own premises: “We've come a long way. We started out in the park, but moved into the steading. We've expanded again and there's room to do more here still. If everything goes to plan then we will eventually move away from the farm to a greenfield site."
