Irina Fedorenko won March’s Shell LiveWIRE Smarter Future Award for her business, BubbleNut Wash.
BubbleNut Wash sustainably produces natural detergents made of soapnuts (Sapindaceae berry) that provide a natural alternative to chemical-intensive products, thus decreasing the amount of harmful chemicals released into the environment and enabling the reuse of ‘grey water’. The business’ product allows grey water to be released straight into waterways without further treatment. Alternatively this water can be used as a garden fertilizer. The business is hoping to save at least 30 gallons of waste water a day in each UK household, whilst reducing the amount of phosphates released into UK rivers by 16%.
Commiserations to Christophe Christiaen (Stroom Energy), James Okwudili (Vibro Ultra), Sam Rogers (Braw Power) and Ehab Sayed (Biohm) who were shortlisted but did not win this time and are encouraged to reapply.
Sam Etherington won a Shell LiveWIRE Grand Ideas Award in 2014, for his business Aqua Power Technologies, before going on to be shortlisted for the 2014 Shell LiveWIRE Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, where he won the £5,000 Future Impact Award.
