Wed, 01 October 2014

These 4 young entrepreneurs have each won £1,000 for their start-up in August's Shell LiveWIRE Grand Ideas Awards!
Samuel Etherington (Aqua Power Technologies Limited) (pictured)

Aqua Power Technologies is developing an innovative, financially feasible, and mechanically sound solution to convert wave energy into electricity. The wave energy converters, designed and fabricated by Aqua Power Technologies, are deployed within the offshore environment, anchored and left to generate energy from the natural power of the waves. The multi-axis nature of the design is its unique selling point and key novel design invention. The structure’s ability to absorb all the forces being applied to it not only increases its power generating potential, but also helps to provide a longer duration in service, due to the lack of stress being applied to the structure.
Richard Purcell (Medincle Ltd)

Medincle have developed an affordable and extensively compatible British medical spell checking programme built for students as well as healthcare professionals. Medincle’s small widget of software seamlessly integrates itself into a user’s word processing programme (Office or iWork), enabling them to proofread their documents. Since they began trading in early 2014, Medincle has rolled out their software and have secured sales with a number of universities and their programme is currently being used by over 4,000 medical and dentistry students, as well as faculty and staff.
