June 2013 Shell LiveWIRE Grand Ideas Award Winners Announced!

Mon, 05 August 2013

These four brilliant young businesses have each won £1000 for their start-up in June's Shell LiveWIRE Grand Ideas Awards!

Lauren Dickinson-Clarke (HOLDE Ltd)
HOLDE Ltd offers a range of innovative and contemporary clothing for women who want to take HOLDE of their lives. The clothes are reasonably priced, and are practical and durable. HOLDE is a sustainable brand in the fashion world as it is fulfilling a unique niche – to provide garments with a high-fashion design aesthetic, yet with an accessible price point. The business is also very passionate about keeping the UK manufacturing industry strong, and only produces its garments in London. They also hope to spread positive energy and empowerment to the youth of today with their brand tone, which is echoed through their statement slogan t-shirts.

Corbyn Munnik (TapNow) (PIctured)
TapNow (formerly Tapfanatic) is a new way to connect companies with customers. Near Field Communication (NFC) is a short-range wireless communication frequency that allows you to transfer data across mobile devices. TapNow will leverage this technology to help businesses to monetize previously unrealised revenue streams. The first product is ‘tap 4 taxi’. This allows consumers to seamlessly order a taxi at their location by simply tapping one of the NFC touch points with their Smartphone.

Zoe Ives (The Indian Bicycle Shop)
The Indian Bicycle Shop is an online bicycle shop that sells traditional all-steel bicycles and accessories which are imported from India. As well as an online shop, they are registered traders at Portobello Road Market, The Rare Brands Market and STK Market, and aim to start selling wholesale to independent bike shops this year.

The bicycles come from KW Bicycles, a family run business whose bicycles are still hand-made using traditional methods by staff who are paid a higher wage than competing factories. With every ten bicycles sold, The Indian Bicycle Shop donates a bicycle to a school girl in India to enable her to stay in education. They work in partnership with The Mann Deshi Foundation which is able to choose the families most in need of bicycles.

Rob Denton (Lodge Your Dog)
Lodge Your Dog is a unique marketplace for dog sitters. It offers a platform for dog sitters to create a profile, find dog owners, and take secure bookings. Lodge Your Dog is the safer, simpler, and guilt free alternative to kennels. They have a unique partnership with the National Association of Registered Pet Sitters (NARP) which means every dog sitter on Lodge Your Dog must meet the highest industry standards. Further to this, they insure every booking with an industry leading policy provider, ensuring safety and the highest quality of care.

Commiserations to Nathan Cox (eMod), Yusuf Chaudhri (Ethnical Fostering), Tom Walkinshaw (Alba Orbital), Andrew Raynes (The HouseCloud), Gillian Christie (Sim Prints) and Jesscia Chai (Mmm Cookie Dough) who were shortlisted but did not win this time and have been encouraged to reapply.
