Google Local Business Center
This is a great quick and free way to advertise your business. Google has a market share of around 90% in the UK, meaning that wherever your business is located, the chances are that your potential customers and clients are using a Google search for everything from finding a great place to get a pizza to searching for local businesses like yours. Your listing will appear as a location pin on the Google map that features at the top of the Google search results.
Don’t be put off if you’re working from a home address as you can omit the house number and just use the street name - and besides most people will email, visit your site or phone. If you have more than one address, you can create up to 10 listings at different addresses.
To get started you’ll need a Gmail account. If you don’t already have one, sign up for an account at http://mail.google.com and then head to Google Local Business Center http://www.google.com/local/add to create your listing.
Your listing will appear within 24 hours of verification, which takes a few minutes. You can also add photos and links about your business, as well as videos. Google Analytics - Measure the effectiveness of your website
To sell more of your product or services you need to understand who your site visitors are and how they use your website. For this, you need web analytics.
Web analytics can be pricey, but you can use Google Analytics (www.google.com/analytics) for free. This will arm you with invaluable statistical data such as:
- Where your visitors are coming from - search engines, other sites and so on
- How long they are staying
- The keywords that led them to your site
- Sales and conversions
Signing up is relatively straightforward, but you will need to incorporate a little code within your site, which depending on your technical ability, may require help from a web developer.
