2002 - Aftab Ahmed and Afzal Ahmed (Fixits)

Brothers Aftab and Afzaal Ahmed, founders of 3D animated puzzle company Fixits, won the prestigious title of Shell LiveWire Young Entrepreneur of The Year in 2002.

Their business, Fixits, specialised in the design, manufacture and marketing of innovative jigsaws that have been completely transformed using the latest 3D animation technology, innovative design and novel packaging. The new puzzles are aimed at children aged between 6 and 11 and at the time of winning were soon to be available in the nation's leading department stores such as, Fenwick's, Hamleys and John Lewis.

Fufilling a life-long ambition, Aftab and Afzaal started their own business in October 2001, having identified an underdeveloped niche in the puzzle market. The duo have made a firm commitment to produce innovative, distinctive and strongly branded products that are educational and fun. Fixits is being launched with two products 'Tiger Tiger' and 'Floating Zoo'. Each of the 204 pieces of the puzzles has its own interactive characteristics, surface protection and foam padded backing to ensure durability. A protective adhesive sheet is also supplied to preserve the puzzle as a 3D image once assembled, and to give lasting value.

Since winning the award the pair have gone on to run their own online box retailer company, Box Express, based in Newcastle. Box Express is a national, dedicated online shop for all your packaging needs whether you're moving, storing or shipping.
