Under 18's night club

I have wanted to make a under 18's club for a while as I have always wanted to go to a club but being 16 it is impossible.

I have done some market research and I have made a business plan.

I dont have enough funds to get it off the ground so does anyone know where I will be able to get the money for the project?

I would be grateful to anyone that would be able to help me out

Whereabouts are you based? Different areas have different schemes.

You could ask your local Princes Trust. Get a business plan together and see if they can give you a grant. But really does depend where you live

Just relised you were on 16, so you cannot get a grant from the Princes Trust. Maybe you could hire out a hall, gear it out and sell tickets. Then the money you make from the tickets covers the cost for the hall hire, dj etc. Then the money left over as your profit. If its a success keep doing that and the profit you make put aside. Then once you have got enough capital you can develop your idea of creating your own nightclub. I agree it would be a success as I am only 16 and it really is a good idea as there is nothing to do around here. I am sure it would be a big hit with the group connextions, You could say the usually ' it will keep them out of trouble as they are in a safe environment and gives them something to do ' the usuall Bullsh*t people say when creating something for the youths. People around my area (cambridge) do the same, they hire out a hall called the Cornexchange, big bands play there with regular concents and hold events for under 18's. But once you have the capital, which will take a while as it will be pricey you may wel be over 18, which by then you can create a real night club which most probs will make a much bigger profit as you can sell alcohol at top end prices. But if you say it will keep youths safe and out of trouble you may well get backing my connextions and your local council which may lead to other things.

i think it would interest the council more than connexions liamross, connexions deal with problems, carrers and other such things. As far as i know its the responsibility of the council for keeping kids in line.

bjg i think you need to consider everything that liamross has said and im not sure if you need to gain a type of insurance because of the ages of people etc etc. The place you take out should have some form of insurance then you have the difficulty of gaining chairs, tables, food, drink. I think its a very costly bussiness you are going into expecially when the council could raise the question of what are you going to do if there is trouble. I dont think a few parents on stand by will be much help. You need to ask yourself about every area expecially when working with kids. Dj's and hire is usually quite expensive and im not sure under 18s would really want to turn up to a scout hall to have a disco. Always worth a try tho.

As you are dealing with 'kids' under 17's I should think you need to go through a lot of paper work to as they are strict when it comes with working with under 17s. But I dont really no, you need to consider all of this

Have you thought about renting a regular nightclub for an evening say twice a month. The club would look after Dj security and so on and you would just generate interest.

Around our local area there are a few places that offer under 18 nights in a regular club where alcohol isn't served. It could be hard to generate interest as most kids don't want to go out and spend £20-£30 a night on soft drinks. They will tend to go just to take advantage of the music and meeting other people which doesn't make you any money.

Tickets or door fee's would have to be low but high enough to take enough money to please the club.

Nightclubs will usually go for private hire on the basis that the promoter putting on the event gets the door take and the club gets the wet sales (bar takings).


At an under 18's night the clubs have to cover up all fridges optics etc with drapes as they can't be seen to be promoting alcohol to the under 18's. This takes time to do from personal experiance.

Whilst the clubs do sell soft drinks at the bar very few under 18's actually buy them. They usually end up asking for free glasses of water (not good for the bar but under the licensing they have to provide free tap water on request).

At the clubs that I've been involved in they have all ran their oen kids night as the only money they make is on the door. The clubs that don't presently run them usually don't run them as they don't want their club trashing by the little darlings...

For a nightclub to put a kids night on is really easy. Simply get the flyers printed and stand outside the local schools a week before handing out the flyers (easier than promoting to over 18's and only takes 20 minutes per school).

You may find a club interested but you would need to agree a good door split for the club to make it worth while. You also need to convince them why you will make it a success compared to them paying one of their bar staff £5.50 an hour to do they same promoting job for more profit.

When I used to be a club promoter I tried this several times. The police advised me not to do it and not one single club in Manchester would allow such an event.

It is a lot of work and it is highly likely that gangs from rival schools will fight, mainly with knives.

I would speak to your local council, the police and local night clubs. It does of course depend what area you live in, but in Manchester this is a no go.

It's not just the fighting; the worst problem would be drugs. It's a piece of whizz for the local dealer to pay a couple of young'uns to sell his gear for him on these nights.

I think that basically it's a great idea that would work in a nice, carefree place where kids were still kids at 16; it would end up being an absolute nightmare in the nasty, unpleasant real world

wel no its not drugs like i said in my last post. i play in hull under 18s events and on the door before they even get into the club they get searched all over females empty their bags and lads have to empty their pockets and all their body gets felt if you no what i mean. and if they dont like they dont come. then dont for get cctv all over the clubs and they is security all over the place in hull we have no problems we have police out side at the end we have the odd fight but you can get that any time any place

Hi in my area i think the council run these events for the kids but it's in an events hall rather than a proper nightclub. The event hall does have a bar though so the kids can buy softdrinks etc.

I don;t in all area's you need to worry about kids from local schools kniving each other - certainly wouldn't happen in my area even though i am in essex. Drugs has to be considered as an issue though.

I would of thought that some nightclubs would be happy to hold under 18 events as long as it doesn't have an impact on their normal nights. After all these kids in a couple of years time are going to be their new customers so why not attract them to the venue when they're young and build some customer loyalty.

hi i like the way you keep going on about drugs. lets get this rite kids can do drugs any time any day. in hull drugs is really bad but ive been goin 2thease events since i was 14. im now 17and i work with the company who run thease events called dance paradise. we have never had drugs but its the risk the owner of the club takes. and alchol wel ive been reedin other posts by people and no you dont have to cover it up as longs as you dont sell it to them it dont matter because you might as well say every time a under 18 goes into a shop/ pub that sells it they dont cover it up they is no law that says it cant be on show but they is a law that says it they cant sell it
