Can Anyone Help?????
Hello all,
I am in a bit of a dilemma and hope that someone could help. My friend and I started a Secreatrial/Typing Services business in August last year (Type Rite Secretarial Services) specialising in Legal Secretarial work and much more and have been up and running office based since August. Just recently work has slown down and we are experiencing difficulties in marketing our business and capturing our market. We are really motivated and will do anything to keep our business going but to enable us to do so (as all businesses do) we need more clients. I have done the obvious mailshots, discounts, e-mails to people advertising for secretaries/typists etc sending powerpoint presentations out etc. etc. Does anyone have any ideas to help or do you know anyone else who could benefit from our services? Any ideas welcome! Hi - me again,
When you say you specialise in Legal and secretarial work, I guess this is what you are marketing, as there is a fair bit of expertise required for this field (terminology used etc). Are you providing support to businesses in just this field? I would imagine there are a lot of companies who are not in a position to employ a dedicated secretary who would be interested in your services, but not necessarily linked to the Legal profession. I would suggest that if you are in the market to take on other secretarial work - get yourself to the breakfast meetings hosted by the Chamber. You may find you meet some potential clients there..... especially as alot of people attending are new start ups themselves, but may not be necessarily skilled in typing and presentation of letters etc. Good luck. =) |

Hello. I just visited your website and for me, it's all a bit to dark. Have you thought about doing a standard HTML website? It's vital any business gets there web site right as this will reflect your company and what potential clients think of you.

Web Site
THANKS DESIGNR I don't like the web site either but surprisingly lots of people do. I have not updated it since August but have recently designed a powerpoint presentation in the form of a web site which I think it's much better but the person who done our web site is saying he does not have the time to make the presentation into a web site. He said it can be done but not at this moment. I have my FTP details but do not know how to do it myself. Mostly I send out the presentation out to future clients on CD for them in the hope that they do not visit the web site!!!!!

Tracey, which bit do you not understand? The FTP or transferring the CD to the site? (or both)
On a side note, have you tried using Flash for your presentations? We have recently developed some Flash demos/ tutorials which have increased business. Take a look: http://tutorial.designrweb.co.uk Maybe you should try something similar. Regards Design R Web Solutions

Hi There
Like Design R states you really do need to get a HTML simple version of your site. This will allow a wider audience to view your site and all serach engines will rank you higher as they prefer HTML text. As for your presentation you will have to convert to a html page before you can uploaded via your FTP. You could get it converted to adobe PDF format for user to download and view If you want any help please get into contact Hope that makes sense Kind Regards Chris

Hi Tracey and Lindsey
If your aiming primarily at the legal secretarial market then may be you should consider widening your marketing campaign, for example, legal secretaries are always in short supply in London - Why not approach some of the major law firms directly. There are literally hundreds of law firms in London (large and small) and they all use legal secretaries, often on a temporary basis. Furthermore, have you considered advertising your services in some of the legal publications – like The Lawyer and The Law Gazette? Also, solicitors and barristers tend to have some sort of club where they socialise (contact the Law Society for details) may be you could place a few adverts or leaflets there. If, on the other hand, you want to confine your market to Liverpool and the surrounding area, why not try and get a little free publicity in the local paper – an article detailing how you can ease someone’s workload should generate a few leads. Hi Tracey & Lyndsay
Dear Tracey & Lyndsay,
How are you doing? You may not remember me, but I was on the same training day at the Princes Trust. Sorry to hear that you are struggling a little, my business has slowed down quite a bit lately and I have the same problems. I have got details on the Liverpool Chamber, but you need to be a member to attend their meetings as far as I know. Give me a call and I can give you the details, I may also know of a firm of solicitors in Liverpool, that may be interested in you services. My contact details are on my website. Regards
