Marketing a new business

Myself and a partner have recently set up an outsourced payroll bureau, offering completely managed payroll services to large and small businesses in the UK.

Direct mail has proved fruitful, in that we have 2 potential leads we are following up, but are finding it quite a cash drain. Any ideas on how we can get ourselves in front of potential clients who may not recognise the benefits of an outsourced payroll department?

We are thinking along the lines of seminars etc, but are unsure where to start.

Any help gratefully received.

=)

Hi Jay Jay,

You could try contacting the CIPD, they are holding an exhibition in April, where there will be many HR departments of companies. You could enquire about advertising options, or cheaper, head there youself.

Information can be found on http://www.cipd.co.uk/hrd/.

Good luck

Hi Jay Jay

Have you tried cold-calling companies? I know my partner used to have some big successes using this method with he was in sales. You could target specific types of company to make your sales pitch more relevant to their business.

Good luck

Thanks for the info on the exhibition. Looks very interesting. Ive registered so Ill do a bit of research...

I have tried cold calling, but always seem to get my timing wrong. Its difficult to keep going when you get a pile of rejections, and often quite rude people on the telephones!!! Im am a payroll manager by trade and find it difficult to make the transition to sales - especially when its myself I'm selling!

Often payroll contracts are up for renewal annually, and the chances are its not in the month you ring a company, but we have been sending information out anyway, so we are ahead of the game.

Thanks for your ideas - most helpful.

Nursing Agencies

We are involved with a web site called www.bankandagencynursing.com which is targeted towards the 1600 odd nursing agencies in the UK. I know the management team are offereing great banner ad prices at the moment.

You could potentially also use their database and send direct mail to all the nursing agencies in the UK for a quite a small sum.

contact me at info@comcare.fsbusiness.co.uk for more information or visit their site.

Regards

Chris
