t-shirt licences

I am currently setting up my business plan to open my own t-shirt business and i would like to sell t-shirts with cartoons/movies/tv characters on the front such as the Superman Logo, Dangermouse and Bat-think (and his wings of steel) !

Can anyone tell me whether i would need a licence or contract with the people who own the copyright for these characters ???

If this is the case then where do i find the relevant contact info on these companies and would i have to be a official license endorsed business like quicksilver traders have to be ?

Help !!!!

definitely

hiya!
you definitely will have to respect all the copyrights. one thing you could do to get around it is to start with using characters from movies that are older than 50 years. remember the movie shrek? all these little walt disney figures that featured in there were older than 50 years, snowwhite and the dwarfs and that.
another general clause seems to be that when you change something by 10%, you've respected the copyright law, but I'm not too sure how that works.
hope that helps!

hi, I too thought of setting up my own t-shirt company, I actually didi a cost benefit analysis and looked at the market closely. I found a possible niche in specialising in hip/hop rap t-shirts. You may find that there is lots of competition already in the sector you are going in, you may need substantial marketing of your company and products, also you should think about selling online as this will be a major source of income. Have you actually considered the competition in this area, dont rush into it and finally how much money are you willing to put into this venture.
