Launch Of New Magazine

Hello everyone,

Is there anyone out there that has been involved with the Launch of a magazine or know How I can get in contact with anyone that can advise us on some basics. Most importantly generating advertising sales and some Editorial issues.

Any advice is valued no matter how small thanks.

Sorry for hijacking this post but I'm planning to get a magazine published.

I would be grateful for any advice, e.g how do I approach shops/organisation to hold my mags in their premises so interested customer will pick it up. Do I have to offer the owner of the shop some kind of discount or some incentive for promoting my mag?

Would be grateful for some tips and advice on sourcing the contents and maybe inviting some possible contributors for features etc..

What We mean by Launch is we are in the start up phase creating a Mock copy of the magazine for marketing and advertising sales.
Further more we are interested in confirming from experts or those experience in the field on what best to focus our energies on and what should be re-considered.
I have tried to check your site and I bet you already know is under construction right. (lol)

I'd highly recommend Sam Fletcher - he posted above. He's a good guy and does some great design work. He also specialises in magazine design and production.

It depends on how many copies you are wanting to shift - magazines are generally distributed through one of the 3 key wholesalers - Menzies, WHSmith News, or Dawson.

If you are just doing a local magazine, pitch to a few local newsagents and they might stock it, but will probably expect sale or return, plus at least 25% markup.
