Starting my own fashion label

i want to start my own fashion company, specialising in a redesigning socks. if i have an idea to change socks slightly, do you know if i have to get it patented?

any other suggestions on how to get an idea to reality would be wicked.

A new idea for socks? That sounds really cool! Can you make socks so they don't leave a big mark around your anckle? I always feel like they are going to cut off my blood supply (perhaps I have overly large ankles!!_ Ever thought about designing maternity wear - there's a huge demand and I have millions of ideas??!!

They have loose socks and every other type of sock from Japan.
