Which Bank?
I'm setting up as a sole trader, I'm not looking to get any loans form the bank but I would be setting up a separate account for the business. Does anyone know which bank would be best to use and if I should get an particular type of account, any advise would be much appreciated

Abbey Nat gets my vote, free banking for life if you stay within certain parameters, good customer service too!
Do a search & you will find its been covered a few times before. Welcome BTW!

I'd recommend Smile.co.uk
Just set up a current account and use it for the business, i'd be doing this too if they didn't turn me down! Charming huh? They have good interest rates for a current account and have won awards 3 years in a row for their services! Good luck.

But I don't think Abbey give debit cards out though do they? This would be a problem for me in particular.
I applied to Natwest too, I have not heard back from them yet. x

Wow, I had no idea, I was looking at a file comparsion chart, and it showed that abbey didn't provide a debit card (visa debit as you mentioned)
Maybe I should have another go then!

We signed up at a local branch, it was easy and quick. I think we have debit cards. I'd go with Abby.

Charlene,
I'm also with Abbey and before signing up, I queried the debit card situation because most of my payments are done online. I was told that the default is an Electron card. It will work but not in too many places! For online supplier payments, at least for me, it would have been useless. If your credit record (personal and business) is above the threshold, Abbey will give you a Visa debit instead automatically. Unfortunately, they can't tell you which you'll get until the account is already open! If your credit record is fine, then go for it and you'll get the Visa. |
