I always feel nauseous when I read these kinds of posts.
According to Dictionary.com (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/entrepreneur) an entrepreneur is someone who manages an enterprise, with some element of risk to themselves, or who creates employment.

Well I liked it, and not just because I was in it!
My favourite definition of entrepreneurialism is as follows: Entrepreneurship is the pursuit of opportunity without regard to resources currently controlled. But I would also agree with CDG, you don't make any money working for other people! Best, Andrew

Are you REALLY an entrepreneur?
'Entrepreneur' is a useful term but Lord Sugar probably got it right on The Apprentice when he said this:
“An entrepreneur is not what you call yourself, it’s what someone calls you in recognition of what you’ve achieved. I call Richard Branson an entrepreneur. Rupert Murdoch called me one. Anybody who stands up and says: ‘I’m an entrepreneur’ needs shooting. You’ll drive people crazy.”

This is actually quite ironic. I wrote an article on this for my website The Teenage Millionaire.
http://theteenagemillionaire.com/wha...-entrepreneur/ The Oxford dictionary says it’s: Noun – a person who sets up a business or businesses. Now, it may just be me, but I believe that the definition is a bit close minded. I believe that the French translation is more accurate; An entrepreneur is someone who undertakes an endeavour. It’s not just business but anyone who runs any sort of operation really, it’s a person who makes decisions and changes in any ventures. For example, as a website administrator, I am an entrepreneur; I make changes on everything, deciding where things go and how that will affect everything. But the man down the street selling hot dogs is also an entrepreneur; he adjusts the prices of his sausages depending on how many customers he receives, his profits and various other factors. It’s not just the people who are the owners, founders, or creators of a venture that are the entrepreneurs, it also includes all the staff that makes a change or decision in the company/business/project/anything. This includes the accounts all the way to the cleaners. They all have a say no matter how small. So, are you an entrepreneur? For more information Google it or visit the Wikipedia article at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entrepreneurship – It’s a bit heavy reading but still pretty good. |
