Advertising Rates On Websites
Hi,
I've had an online entertainment magazine up and running for about a year in various formats. I've now settled on a layout, appearance and have some friends writing articles - creating content and basically getting bigger. You can check it out at: http://www.freeloveandmusic.com Besides merchandise sales, stuff like t-shirts and hats, I know that its possible to create an income by providing advertising on the site via banner ads and pop ups. Well, I hate pop ups so I'll never inflict them on my readers, but I was curious about what types of rates are typically charged for banner ads. I'm certain there would be factors considered such as how much traffic the site has and what the click through rate is, but I haven't heard any actual numbers to go with this. So what kind of rates should I charge would-be advertisers? At present there isn't a great amount of traffic on the site but there have been times when I've put unusual content on (animations, humour, etc) when traffic has jumped up. Thanks in advance for any help on this, Stu |

I suggest you search on Google for companies who offer targetted traffic for advertisers.
Then send these companies an email stating that you are looking for advertisments, what your product/service is, how many hits you get per day and any other information that you think may be of use. They should be able to offer you some ideas.

Take a look at find.co.uk's advertsing rates - http://www.find.co.uk/advertisements.html - they are quite comprehensive. They are major players though and you may not be able to charge quite so much!
