I am considering starting a website similar to trip advisor.

What would be the cost of a site like this and would anyone be interested in doing it for me?

Hmm it would actually cost alot more then that im afraid, its the sort of website I don't believe one person could do, so even not talking about the actual build, to employ staff etc would make the cost escalate..

I was only quoting the build cost for the code!
Not even including operating or any other costs, and there would be quite a lot as already mentoned...

Sorry if I wasnt clear but I was talking about the cost of the website!! 5k wouldnt be enough for a site of that scale!

It's quite a simple backend website though, well capable of being constructed and completed within 50 hours / £5000
Yes, you are reading that correctly, that works out at £100 per hour

Yeah that would give the site a development time of around a week and a half at 6 hours a day. Doesn't seem right to me either.

I partly agree with Brett on this one. I've just had a 2 min look over trip advisor and there is a huge amount of functionality there. As the only web developer in our company i would be able to create something like this but we would charge a lot more than the £5000 mark. I'd expect a team of developers to take at least a month to create the site.

I would recommend a budget of at least £15k for a site pretty much identical to trip advisor.

Then again wikipedia would take me 20 mins to create and cost a fiver
