Sponsorships

I was wondering whether anyone has ever tried to create a staregic link with a company that you ca benifit from , and vice-versa, as a start up. I am generally talking with reference to e-business, where you link to a larger company that can generate traffic for you in return for a sponsorship type deal. Not sure if this would run with the big companies, as the insentive for them seems minimal, however, any advice I much appreciated!
