Lot of spam lately?
Has anybody else been receiving lots of spam lately to do with stocks etc, usually as an embedded image in an e-mail with a stupid title.
I have recently changed my e-mail address and do not advertise it anywhere, I only use forms on my website with all information such as e-mail addresses held on the server. Any ideas how they are getting my e-mail address, my current email addy starts with mail@, do they try a few common ones such as info, mail, webmaster etc, should I change it to something more obscure? Thanks for any advice. Damon

I haven't seen that one. The best thing I have come across is Norton Anti-spam. It sorts out smap e-mails really well.

Hi Damon,
I think they try tons of random addresses - common names, and things like admin, administrator etc. I used to have all email that got sent to my domain forwarded to one address and i'd get emails with the address as Alice@mydomain.com - now i'm sure we all know that song about alice - well thats what i wondered! ![]() If you have your own domain then some mail servers allow spam rules to be setup in the admin so give this a go. If not or in conjunction with, i can recommend http://www.cloudmark.com/ as a good anti spam filter for outlook. I think i pay about £3 a month for it and that combined with norton anti spam catches about 98% of all the junk mail i get sent. Oh and yes i keep getting sent that email as well!

rachel if it's a problem get cloudmark anti spam - it'll save u more money in time than it costs u. I get around 80 - 120 spam emails each morning when i check my emails plus a few during the day. I hardly have to worry about them any more - i used to have to spend about 20 mins going through them to see which were real emails and which were spam. I prob sound quite pro cloudmark but i've been using it for about 3 or 4 years now and it's just made checking my emails so much easier.

I have a local server which runs SpamAssassin, using this I relay mail from my main email accounts into outlook. Has the benefit of not running any extra software than is required on my computer, which helps keep it fast and nippy. I'm not really a fan of Norton products

![]() My junk mail detector is VERY good. It is Zone Alarm Security Suite and it very good at picking up spam in Outlook!! I don't think it has mistaken normal emails for spam and vice versa! |

I just let outlook pick up mine by itself and it seems to be fine!

Hi martin,
My server build is in progress and will be done in the next few months so i'll have a look at that spam assasin. Like u i want a very nippy PC without the unecessary software - at the moment 4 instances of SQL2k and SQL2005 + MySQL 5 and all the other stuff seems to be taking it's toll. BTW did u get that email i sent you?
