Your opinion - the royal WE or "my business and I?"

Hi all, as a new business I have many people helping me around the edges. But at the end of the day I am in the centre - I deal with customers and suppliers and any other third parties. So my question is - is it better to talk in terms of "we and our business" or "me and my business"?
Some people are sick of big faceless businesses where they have to speak to different people each time they contact the company so they will be happy to feel that they are dealing with a small business with a personality - they can feel that they can ask for or make special requests without being turned down...
On the other hand - some customers are more hesitant to place an order with small businesses.
Your thoughts on this please...

I think it depends on what you are selling and to whom.
Personally as a personal trainer, I have to focus a lot on myself as a brand as customers are relying on my skills and knowledge. I hhave to build their trust a nd a rapport with them if I want to progress.

For you, selling quite a novelty item, I imagine you might want to do the same. So people associate you with the product you sell.

I tend to use I as it reassures that someone will actually do what they are asking for.

As Cameron said it depends on the type of image you want to give out. I get fed up with companies saying we will do this we will do that all the time as it does tend to sound like it is going to take 4 staff to do the job...ha.

"We will photocopy that and get it sent back to you" - Why one person to photocopy it one person to write the envolope one person to lick it and one to post it?

I'm changing the copy of my site soon to 'I' instead of we.

It's focused at a very niche market, so the power personal you can get with the customer the better. Especially as I'm known on a few forums regarding around the subject, the famous 'I' should work a lot better- for me.

We off! Cos I is in!

Thanks for your thoughts people. For want of a better word, I am actually a somewhat shy and private person - not because I dislike people or have anything particular to hide - I've happily travelled and met customers at their own convenience to bring true last minute presents; one American lady wanted me to post a 40 g bag of twiglets because she can't get them in USA - I posted out a jumbo bag with her order and felt totally entertained by the request! - This sort of exchange is only meaningful because of people behind it. Yesterday I received a nice, witty promotional bag of crisps in the post made by a company associated with Gary Linekar - needless to say it didnt get me gushing with that good feeling.

Regarding shyness/privacy - its partly the way I am (which I can't change) and partly the fact that I just like to do my own thing at my own pace, and not live up to a particular reputaion for doing this or that.

So I was hoping to work behind the "royal we" and breathe life into a new business personality separate from myself and do all the behind-the-scene stuff ; in the future I would employ someone as the "face" of the business.

Or I could step out of the comfort zone and lend myself to the business identity. As it is an Internet business - I think I can foster a happy-medium situation, whereby I can avoid a room full of people , but still animate the business with "myself and I" via emails/chatrooms/blogging.

Those who hesitate to do business with a company that appears to be small can "we" off I guess!

I am taking the same approach as RSS - the word "we" is banished from my business unless absolutely required by context.
Have I bored you with my deliberations? If so - are WE bothered!?
I aint bothered though:-)
