Protecting an 'idea'

Just wondering how you protect an 'idea' - I am not talking about a product but more a concept, say if it was a tv programme 'concept' - anyone got any ideas how you would do that?

Sorry I appreciate that an NDA is available on an individual level but i mean more on launch / at a mass level.

LOL. No it aint a quick money making idea either. Well it has a website involved but that aint the main thrust - I am just trying to protect a 'concept'.

'Ideas' themselves can't be copyrighted or trademarked.

Well how do tv programmes protect their idea - isnt there something like intellectual property rights or something.

I don't think tv programmes protect their ideas, they just do it. Look what happned with Simon Cowell vs Simon Fuller over X-factor.
