Negative keywords in Adwords

Does anyone know if you can use matching options on negative keywords? ie. can I use -[xxxxxx] and -"xxxxxx"

Thanks!

That's interesting.

I'd never considered that before, and I run adwords campaigns on behalf of a few clients of mine.
Not sure that using an exact match negative keyword would yield anything, but phrase matching might be useful. Google don't actually point out that you can use negative keyword matching options in their help but, thinking about it, why wouldn't you be able to do it?
I run an Adwords question & answer blog here: http://dmjadwords.blogspot.com, so I may research this and add it as a hint & tip in the future as I think others would find it useful.
Thanks, Martin

Thanks Kieron!

Martin, the reason I brought it up was because I had some adwords campaigns where the ads weren't showing for certain keywords. When i contacted Google it turned out they were still reviewing a word that they didn't like the look of so hadn't let it go live...despite the fact it said active.

Whilst pointing this out they also mentioned that because parts of my negative phrases matched my actual keywords the ads for those keywords wouldn't show up ie. I had [Route Planner] as a keyword and -Mutimap Route Planner as a negative keyword, so according to him [Route planner] wouldn't work.........his suggestion was to change the negative keyword to -Multimap instead..

However.......I didn't make any changes and [Route Planner] is showing impressions and a good CTR...so the question is, did this guy know what he was talking about??

Laura..

I suspect that your [Route Planner] keyword might have been showing impressions because the negative keyword was already only acting on the -multimap part of your phrase. I'm not sure about this as it's a bit of a grey area, but if you had a keyword as...... -multimap route planner, then I would have thought that (without quotes or square brackets anywhere) multimap would be the only negative keyword.
Did you specify the negative keyword within the keywords for the advert group itself or did you specify it as a campaign negative keyword? The reason I ask is that I don't think you specify the "-" at the campaign level.
