help with VAT
Hi All,
excuse me if I sound stupid wen I ask this but how often do you submit VAT returns? when I was VAT registered in the past it was every 3 months? I registered for VAT on my new business from the 1 Feb and when checking my certificate it says: 'Returns to be made in Respect of period ending 28 February 2006 and three monthly thereafter' From reading that it sound like I have to submit on 28 Feb or soon after, however I have not recieved any further correspondence from them since 24/1/06 wen I registered. Sorry if it seems simple but in the past I just left everything to a accountant but want to try things myself for the first couple of months |

VAT returns are submitted quartely mate and you'll recieve your green form at least a month before due date giving you time to complile your return and make a payment.

Your first return may be shorter or longer than 3 months.
It sounds like in this case you are due to make a return from the date of registration (1st Feb) to the end of Feb, which will be due by the 1st march, although this is usual- they normally give you the 4 months if you have chosen this cycle. If you haven’t done VAT for a while, look at the on-line system. It is really quite decent now, and you get an extra 10 days to pay if you set up the DD vs sending a cheque. Regards,

Hi All,
just to give you a quick update, I spoke to the VAT office who were very helpful and informed me that there has been a bit of a problem with companies that are newly registered not recieving there forms through the post to file for VAT. She sent it out yesterday and it reached me today. Dont know if it is relevant to anyone but thought I would share anyway. Thanks, Lee |
