Finding a web developer to join a business

I've had an idea in the back of my head for a while for a new web based business. I've researched it, talked to the right people, started to plan it and research possible development funds. I even have the potential backing of a leading national charity to endorse the product (goes to a meeting in 2 weeks).

I'm a graphic designer and can do all of the visual aspects of the site, but what I really need is a programmer. I don't have much money so can't go out and even hire a freelancer. I just need to get to a stage where I have a working demo so that we can then show potential investors.

The option I have is to bring the person on board into the business and offer shares in return for their services. Obviously, not really knowing the person this is a risky option so I know I have to be very careful. They would also have to be based in the North East (Newcastle and surrounding) so that we can work together.

I know I can find people using Twitter/Linkedin/this forum... but I wanted to hear anyones advice/experiences of going down this route. Or are there any other options I haven't yet thought of?

Thanks,

Emma :)

Really? The very nature of marketplaces i.e driving prices down, means it much more affordable than ever to hire contractors whatever your requirements. This is your best bet IMO, you will find it difficult to persuade someone with programming ability to work on your project I'd suspect.
