CyberCAFE

Hey everyone,

I having a bit of a laugh with a few mates the other day, and we were all saying how great it would be to own a business, instead of just working for one!! We started mucking around with a few ideas and then it hit me, a CyberCafe!!!

Now considering where I live, and what is already here, I really feel it really is a fantastic idea. All my mates agreed (Which always helps!). The emphasis would be more on the Cafe than the Cyber (Hence the caps in the subject!) but I was wondering does anyone have any experience in either setting up a Cafe or even better a CyberCafe!

The technology side (i.e. the cyber side) is not a technical problem as I am an IT technician!! Its more the funding, and what licenses would I need to sell refreshments (drinks mainly) to people.

Also I am only 20, is this going to cause problems getting money together?? I really feel this is a fantastic idea with a good deal of potential,

I just do not know how practical (if at all!) I am being with this, maybe its just not possible......??

hi there,
i do not know about the cyber part of things but for the cafe you will not need a licence for this part as long as you do not sell hot food you can sell hot drinks but when you start to sell food you will have to contact the EHO for advice and applications.
the benifit to just selling cold snacks it is 0 rated ie more profit.

You have as much chance as anyone if you can show that there is a market for this service, and that you can provide customers with what they want. Do some carefull research, get advice, and the draw up a business plan that you can give to possible financers.

Don't worry about you age! There are lots of young people around this forum, who have raised funds for their ideas

It may be worthwhile spending some time researching why there isn't one in your area already?

I think for any business it's important to ask yourself why nobody has done this already, however original ideas may seem you can probably guarentee that someone, somewhere has had the same idea which helps you to evaluate how yours will be different/unique/workable.

Now days a lot of people have their own PC / Laptop and an internet connection at home! And dont forget there is also a lot of Internet TV technology about too... so that wont be to good for your business.

I personally think that the days of cyber cafe's are gone - having worked in one and ran it for 6mths! However do some research into it around your area - you never know :)

I think for a cyber cafe to succeed it would need to offer sumthing what cannot be done at home, as cmckay said, most people have their own means of getting online. As for what else to offer im not quite sure...maybe others have other ideas?

Networked gaming perhaps is an idea. People meet up, socialise and play games... maybe something for only die-hard gamers...
