Searching for software

Hello again

I was chatting to a work colleague yesterday who suggested I should look into getting 3d studio max for my design business. I'm not particularly competant when it comes to computers but am keen on getting hold of it and learning it. I know it's expensive, so is there anywhere I can get it either free (downloaded?) or really cheap.
Any advice would be useful.

If its the same program i am thinkin about it is awesome, but i think the program is £1000+ to buy.

You will need one serious computer to do the complex rendering required though.
