Does anyone have any experience in Medical Recruitment?
I hear that this is a good industry to be in and as i have potential clients (doctors), i may need some advice and general knowledge on how the system works.

Also considering partnerships from anyone suitable.

I work in the health service and use to work for a GP practice.

The only advice i can give in this respect though is locum doctors. Practices are looking for locum doctors all the time. If you set up a site with locum doctors on then told practices about it i am sure it would be a sucess. Of course you would need more than just names. I guess you would need references, etc.

Im not in HR side of things (im in IT) but this is what i found out.

Hi, Im afraid I havent had much luck in finding out too many details for you.

Although I did find out that apprently the Government have just signed contracts for preferred providership for NHS staff.

This means certain medical recruitment companies have just got the contracts to provide the NHS with Doctors, Nurses, lab staff , radiographers, even porters etc...

I dont mean this to put you off in anyway, if youve done your research and you have found a market for your services then dont let anything stop you!!

Have you considered specialising further such as pharmicutical companies?!

Thanks for your message and sorry for the dealy in replying, i have been on holiday!

I know exactly what your saying and it does seem like a 'closed market'. Seems strange that the government has decided to limilt the monopoly on such ventures.....especially when there is such a demand for medical professionals in the UK.

I intend to supply an established Medical recruitment firm with docs, and let them handle all the paper-work and billing/salary/placement/licence issues. They can pay me a commission ... and at a good rate, as without the docs in the first place...thier phones will stop ringing!

My old company was the biggest online health recruitment site in the UK however since they were bought out the service has gone rapidly downhill so you could be in with a great chance of getting yourself some big NHS clients.

I'd have a chat with www.careersinn.com as some of my former co-workers moved to this project, they'll be able to help you and offer you some cheap advertising in the process!

Last time I looked they were only charging £10 per health candidate

I would have thought that the governents "prefferred" providors would be the ones who are most competetive. The NHS seems to be about saving money these days which could make things tricky if you were wanting to deal with them as a startup?

Each NHS Trust does it's own recruitment so you don't have to sell your service to the whole NHS you can target by trust.

Kermey is right though you'll have to be able to show where you can save them money. Again by using a site such as www.careersinn.com you'll be offering them cost effective recruitment, if they get no responses they don't pay ... simple!

I'd be amazed if they use you as the only recruitment supplier, many of them go via advertising agencies like TMP so you could target them as well.

You could also contact Job Opportunities as they have a jobs newspaper which goes into the vast majority of NHS trusts in the UK.

Yes the NHS wants to save money but I would have thought the "preferred" recruiters are able to provide background checks and a large amount of staff?

Not necessarily as they do lots the "recruitment" part themselves and don't tend to use recruitment agencies, however they do use advertising agencies and job boards, so it's more the sourcing of the candidates you can push.

My last company had over 200 NHS Trusts advertising for recruitment with them, plus advertising agencies placing job adverts on their behalf, and we were a small company but managed to build up the largest base of NHS clients than any other recruitment website.

Youíll never get 100% of their recruitment business as they use the Internet as part of their recruitment mix. However if you can demonstrate a knowledge of their requirements, where you can save them money, speed up the process, give them access and control youíll be in as strong a position as any other recruitment service.

Helllooo,

Just read this post and phoned one of my friends about it. He is a doctor, and tells me that locum doctors tend to be people coming out of their two years in A and E looking to see if they are cut out for GP work. This means it is part of their training etc etc. As such, they are held on a central register, and farmed out as each surgery puts in a request for a locum.
Recruitment agencys tend to onyl get in on the more menial side of things, like cleaners and people like that.
Nurses are recruited directly by the NHS i think.

Apparently, headhunting for private practices is a big money spinner at the moment, but i should imagine it would need a lot of specialist info to get into that, but its worth a shot.

The advertising agency I work for used to deal with a big NHS trust in the south, until they went to an agency that was set up to provide recruitment advertising for the NHS as a 'not for profit agency' 'cough'

We would place the Ads but all candidates would contact the trust directly with their applications.

Opera, do you own www.careersinn.com seeing as you keep plugging it..... ?

Good question ... no I don't own www.careersinn.com!!!

... however I do rate their service purely because if they don't generate you any candidates you don't pay, and if they do itíll cost you £10 per candidate.

I worked in online recruitment for 4 years for a company called Jobsin.co.uk, our biggest client was the NHS, hence me knowing the key players in the marketplace.

I currently work for Opera Telecom again promoting websites but nothing to do with recruitment ... all ringtones and mobile media which I'm happy to plug!!

On quick question as you seem to know a lot about www.careersinn.com.

It say you pay per response to your advert? - does that mean its £10 for everyone that responds and gets the three questions right or do they have experience recruiters looking through the CVs for you?

You'd have to contact them for their exact T&C's as I don't know.

For us we paid £10 per candidate response, however to be fair the were very targetted and I'm sure you'll agree much cheaper than paying a recruitment agency or for a job advert.

If you contact them I'm sure they'll sort a bespoke solution for you.

Yes its true, the bureaucrats in the nhs + government have made it nigh impossible for start-ups to muscle in on this lucrative medical recruitment market. Some NHS trusts are limited to supply staff solely from a select list of providers/agencies. These agencies have been heavily scrutinised and validated in terms of reliability, cost-effectiveness etc...all the qualities that a good agency should provide. Indeed having read the criteria by which new agencies can apply to be part of the NHS supply contract iI felt it a daunting task at best. it seems medical recruitment may not be as great a start up opportunity as it once was- I am not trying to put you off the idea, but it is something that I have been looking into for the best part of the year, and I have conclued that the competition to supply hosptal doctors to the nhs directly is perhaps not the best ideas due to current legislation. I am sure that there is some one in...and in true entrepreneural talk if there is no way in through the front door, there must must be some one in through the back.
