How can I accept online payments

How can I accept online payments other than the one I have at the moment (which I think puts people off because you have to open an account with the provider).

I have looked into this and found the cheapest to be 250.00 set up + 3% or more and 25.00 per month - it is just impossible for me to afford this as I am a small business who only started trading at the end of January. Do you have any helpful hints?
