Plumbing & General Maintenance Business

I am seriously looking into setting up a plumbing business, eventually moving into general building & maintenance work.

I can take care of the nitty gritty details like getting the company registered, getting an accountant, etc.

What I am having problems with is how to get the business flowing the first few months. Does any one have any suggestions? I am looking to bootstrap this operation as much as possible.

Does anyone know of quick and efficient ways to get plumbing business? I have thought of the usual ie. Yellow Pages, etc.

Any thoughts would be welcome!!

Why not look into buying an established business or opening a franchise?

I didn't think about opening a franchise...any ideas on the best way to do this?

I would rather start up small and then scale up- hence buying a business would be difficult...are there any other options?

Try the British Franchise Association tro see if there are any plumbing franchises in existence, I mean most people have heard of Drain Doctor but I'm not actually sure if there are any plumbing franchises. If not, perhaps you could start one in the future?
