For those who will be storing customer details, have you registered with data protection, or are you thinking of doing so in the future?

Sometimes you do not need to register. I keep my customer's details such as: name, address, email and so on but I do not keep their payment details.
When I called the guys from Data Protection I was advised that I do not need to register, however I have to respect the Act.

That's interesting, maybe i'll do the same?
Wouldn't mind saving £35!

www.dataprotection.gov.uk should help you work out if you need to register.
If you're processing data on your own clients just for the purposes of staying in touch wtih them and providing your services, then you'll probably not need to register. This also applies if you're running your own marketing database (though not if you're handling marketing data for other companies).
