Can anyone recommend an accounts package suitable for a small retail business carrying out large volumes of small transactions often using a credit card debit machine as well as cash & chq. We have no employees but do have a large number of suppliers.

We are currently using the manual SIMPLEX books which cause havac with our bank reconciliations due to the lay out of the pages and unsuitable break down of chq, card and cash.

I use My Business which I understand you can get free from business gateway.

Having posted against NatWest in the past I must say that their free accounting package is not bad.

For a simple business it is okay although a bit tricky for a first timer.

Sage has won many Boring Awards... i.e. accountants like it. I used it in the restaurant and reckoned it was alright.
