The types of massage businesses out there, well apart from the obvious(and probably most profitable!), the main differences seem to be those who use premises and those who visit. If you have premises or are asking clients to come to your home you have the costs of any materials used, as well as admin and stationery costs etc. You also need insurance for customers to visit your premises. Check this one carefully as not all business policies cover this, but it is vitally important. If you are working from home you can claim back a proportion of your household bills on tax however.
The other type of massage business is a visiting service, whereby you go to the client's home or office(there are a few people doing quite well from specialising in in-office massage!). In that case you have your materials and admin costs, plus travel expenses. The emotional benefit from this though is that you're not stuck in the same place staring at the 4 walls all day, something which does get underestimated when working for yourself!

I soooo agree with that last statement! When I started up I was convinced it would be wonderful to work from home! Now Ive been working a fair while, I tend to appreciate the two or three jobs a week I do at clients offices!! Not only does it get me out and about amongst people (Which I miss too!) but I get to drink other peoples coffee!! hee hee!!
