Any suggestions to how I can improve site traffic to my online shop?

I am at the moment paying for AdWords at Google, but it is turning out rather expensive.

Any feedback would be most appreciated.

Hello Ros. A good way to a decent ranking in Google is to have as many links to/from you site as possible. You could also try registering your site to Lycos, Yahoo, Goggle...etc with submission software like Submit Wolf and Web Postion Gold. We use both of these ourselves.

Eg. http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=number+1+web+hosting&ie=ISO-8859-1&hl=en&btnG=Google+Search&meta=cr%3DcountryUK%7CcountryGB This is a search in google.co.uk for "number 1 web hosting" in which we come 3rd and 4th.

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=linux+provider&btnG=Google+Search&meta=cr%3DcountryUK%7CcountryGB This is a search in google.co.uk for "linux provider" and we come 1st and 2nd.

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=linux+bandwidth+limit&btnG=Google+Search&meta=cr%3DcountryUK%7CcountryGB A search in goole.co.uk for "linux bandwidth limit" and we come 5th.

Its works for us and we get quite a lot of traffic from this.

Have you considered asking other sites of a similar theme to link to your site?

Thanks for your feedback.

I have submitted my site to a large amount of search engines, but only a few of them seem to be referring potential customers to my site (Google & Mirago).

Also, I am listed in 90% of all the Shopping Directories in the UK, but I am having doubts if many people use them, since I only get referrals from Kudos Shops.

I have contacted all the online lingerie shops in the UK and asked if they would be interested in swapping links, but so far the answer has been NO. Also done the same with handbag and other accessories sites.

Been a uphill struggle since day one and at the moment I am feeling like a needle in a hay stack!

I am after the same thing really to increase site traffic to my site www.saversoftware.co.uk. I have found goodle ad words campaign useful however need to keep bringing in new customers.

I have also find listing in the nochex.com high street a good way of bringing extra traffic in.

Another usefull tip is selling something on ebay but at the same time fully publish your website i.e creat both an ebayshop & about me page highlighing your webpage.

Hope this helps !!!

Check out this web site : http://www.searchenginewatch.com

It's full of information about how to improve traffic to your site from search engines.

The most important thing to remember with search engines and adwords is that it is no use being top of the listings for a keyword that your customers will not use. Think about what your customers will type into the search engine and target your site at that.

Affiliate Scheme

One of the most effective methods of marketing your web site are affiliate schemes. Large sites like amazon use these to encourage other sites to link to them.

An affiliate scheme is where you pay other sites a percentage of your sale when they successfully send you a customer.

They are easier than you think to set-up.

Links Effect
There is an excellent artical in August's InternetWorks Magazine about encouraging sites to link to you.

The main point they discuss is that you have to make linking to your site beneficial. Well worth a read.

Hope some of these suggestions are helpful

Hi Ros,

This is an area we specialise in as a company but simply banging out the site URL to engines won't help you long term. You need a strategy in place and I'm afraid to say it, need to invest money if you are to see really good results. Anyone can get listed in the engines for long phrases or ones that no-one types in but getting listed for say ladies underwear is a damn sight harder! We run one of the largest Uk dating agencies online and in June this year it peaked with 680,000 visits in that month alone. That is purely from online marketing. If done correctly it can Work!
