Does anyone know anything about the retail of cigarette's or cigars? Do you need licences ? Does anyone know the taxes involved?

I know very little apart from that the profit margins are very low with cigarettes. All the tobaccoist shops are either going out of business or selling sideline products to stay afloat. Also, the side effects, health issues and the price is making people give up big time. I think there's a market for cigars, especially rare ones. They are more a connoisseur I think. A bit like wine is to alcohol.

I don't think a license is needed - i can go to my local cash and carry and buy in bulk no probs if i wanted. Also the markup on cigs is very small as play said.

I was thinking of maybe an online specialist shop selling just cuban cigars. as a sort of hobby project. My research has shown that the decrease in cigarette sales is worse than in cigars. The cigar industry in UK is worth just under 500 million, I would be trying to target the cigar smokers who enjoy cubans finest cigars or looking to invest in cigars as i think there is also investment potential in aged cuban cigars. I was looking on christies auction website and 25-50 aged cigars were sold for almost 5 figures!!
What do you think?
I was mainly thinking on the import tax and dutys for bringing them in to the country. from Cuba.

Sounds like a lot of money for stock!
I would suggest a strategic alliance with an agent in the uk who does not have a web presence.
import taxes can be checked using the link below.

You can start very simply by going to a local corner shop and chatting with the owner. I am sure they will tell you who you have to get in contact with.
