Welcome to Shell LiveWIRE, the UK's biggest online community for young entrepreneurs aged 16-30.

Established in 1982, the Shell LiveWIRE programme offers free online business advice and funding to young entrepreneurs in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland).

The Smarter Future Programme supports young entrepreneurs with smart and innovative ideas that meet the energy and resource needs of a fast-growing population. The programme awards a start-up grant of £5,000 each month to one 16-30 year old entrepreneur with an idea that addresses sustainable living challenges through smart innovation. Winners are also invited to take part exclusive Shell events and workshops. The awards are judged against the following four categories:

  • Smarter use of natural resources – the most innovative and commercially viable solutions that reduce, reuse or recycle essential natural resources to help meet the demands from a growing population.
  • Shaping a sustainable energy future – ideas that could enhance energy efficiency, produce cleaner energy or reduce carbon emissions.
  • Smarter mobility solutions – solutions that help transport more people and goods safely, cost-effectively, efficiently and with a reduced impact on the environment.
  • Smarter cities solutions – start-ups that will help make our urban environments cleaner, smarter and more sustainable places to work and live in.
